Today, most individuals live in urban environments, and it is evident that in such settings, the fulfillment of needs occurs through reciprocal social interactions. Therefore, regulating relationships among individuals in urban societies is essential to prevent disorder and instability. Citizenship rights play a fundamental role in shaping the political, legal, and social status of individuals within society by emphasizing their rights and duties as active members of the community. The neglect of citizenship rights can pose serious threats to society; hence, given their importance, careful attention must be devoted to their clarification and understanding.
Attention to the teachings of divine religions reveals their significant role in shaping and promoting human rights, as the origin of human rights lies in human nature (fitrah), and the Creator of this nature possesses greater and more accurate knowledge of His creation than any other authority. This innate nature can only be realized by transcending layers of self-centeredness. Accordingly, Islamic rights differ fundamentally from human-devised legal systems. In this regard, examining the perspectives of Islam and Christianity as two major global religions is of great importance. Using library sources and a descriptive–analytical method, this article seeks to examine and elucidate the status of citizenship rights from the viewpoints of the Qur’an and the Bible, with the aim of deriving models applicable to contemporary discussions of citizenship rights.
