Every nation and country possesses its own customs, traditions, beliefs, and festivals, each celebrated with unique rituals. Nowruz, as an ancient festival and a symbol of renewal, is one of the most significant of these traditions, deeply rooted in the history and culture of Iran. Recognized as the beginning of the new year, this festival is celebrated not only in Iran but also in numerous countries influenced by Persian culture with great splendor. This article aims to explore the historical and cultural roots of Nowruz and its ritualistic transformations by analyzing historical documents and ancient texts. The research methodology is based on the examination of written sources and documents related to Nowruz. The findings reveal that Nowruz, as a spring festival, predates the emergence of Zoroastrianism and is deeply embedded in the culture of Iranian ethnic groups. Throughout history, this festival has undergone transformations influenced by cultural and social changes, including the advent of Islam in Iran, calendar reforms, and the impact of various ruling powers. Nevertheless, Nowruz has consistently maintained its position as a symbol of renewal and the connection between humans and nature within Iranian culture. The rituals associated with Nowruz, such as lighting fires on the last night of the year, water-sprinkling, growing sprouts, setting the Haft-Seen table, and gift-giving, have endowed this festival with a mystical and spiritual dimension. The results of this study indicate that Nowruz is not merely a national festival but also a symbol of the cultural and historical identity of Iranians. Over the centuries, despite political and religious changes, it has continued to thrive and is now recognized as a global heritage. Nowruz stands as a testament to the enduring cultural legacy of Iran, transcending geographical boundaries and serving as a symbol of peace, friendship, and renewal for people around the world.
